What Causes Canker Sores In Your Mouth?

A canker sore is a rounded and raised bump that forms in the soft tissue of the mouth, areas such as the tissue of the inner cheek or the inner lip. It is not uncommon for a Milpitas Dental professional to be asked about treatment for a canker sore. This particular oral problem has a more technical name; aphtuous ulcer. They are not always painful but they can be. The level of irritation that is felt due to these ulcers is normally dependent on where in the mouth they are located and if they are in contact with anything else (teeth or tongue) that might aggravate them.

For most people canker sores are infrequent and resolve on their own within a matter of days. Those that feel their canker sore issue is a recurrent problem can seek the advice of local Milpitas Dentists. But what causes canker sores in your mouth? Unfortunately nobody knows the canker sores causes for sure. Through studies done with people that suffer from frequent oral ulcers it has been determined that about 30-40% of the population that claims to have consistent canker sores also have a family history with the issue. Beyond surveying these individuals there is no conclusive link between oral ulcers and genetics. There is also no reason to believe that these mouth tissue ulcers are linked to any genetic defects or major illnesses.
